Day 8 - a photo that makes you sad

Day 8 - A photo that makes you sad

This photo makes me sad and happy. This is at my college graduation back in Dec. 2009. It's me with my two best friends in a group hug. I think this picture sums up that day. I remember not wanting to let go of them. The 3 of us had been through so much to get to that day. We held each other up and carried each other through our 3 and a half years at CU. It was hard letting go at the end of that day knowing that was the end of our adventures there. I love those girls so much. Even though I know we will be friends for life and we still try to talk on a regular basis, that picture shows the end of an amazing chapter for us. I know the Bermuda Triangle will be strong forever but the emotion in that picture is so strong.

This is one of my and Chris’s engagement pictures. My sister did a photo shoot with us on Leonardtown square so we could get some nice shots. This is one of my favorite pictures from that group of pictures. I think it captures me and Chris perfectly. ♥ LOVE.

Day 5 - your favorite quote

So I got busy this weekend and didn’t have time to post Friday or Saturday’s entry for the 30 day challenge. Since we got an extra hour today thanks to the end of Daylight Saving Time, I figured today would be a good day to catch up on the posts I missed and do today’s as well.

Day 5- Your favorite quote

“Don’t dream it, be it.”- Rocky Horror Picture Show

Choosing this quote may be a result of the fact that Halloween was last week and I watched Rocky Horror about 5 times that day, but it is one of my favorite quotes. Pretty self-explanatory and I think that one quote sums up what makes Rocky Horror so amazing.

Blog Journal Challenge, Day 4 - your favorite book

Day 4 - Your favorite book

This is another tough question. I can tell you that I tend to gravitate toward series of books. I love being able to really get into the lives and stories of characters and looking forward to finding out how their stories continue. I've always loved picking up a new series and reading every book. My favorite book series when I was in elementary school was the Baby Sitters Club:

I loved these books so much I was even a member of the fan club. I read every book in this series and even read the spin-off series, California Diaries. I loved reading about their friendships and adventures.

As I got older, I moved on to Gossip Girl. In middle school, I was a total GG fanatic.

I enjoyed keeping up with the fabulous adventures of Blair and Serena and all their Upper East Side drama. I tried reading the spin-off series The It Girl (which follows Jenny Humphrey to boarding school) but just couldn't get into it. I think the TV series ruined the Jenny character for me. But I do love me some Chuck Bass.

Finally, a favorite book post could not be complete without my hands down favorite series of all time (yes Kanye, OF ALL TIME), Harry Potter.

I'll admit, I totally hated Harry Potter when the books first came out. My mom bought me the Sorcerer's Stone soon after it came out. I read the first 3 chapters and HATED it. It ended up collecting dust under my bed for a couple of years. When the movies came out and there was even more hype surrounding the series, I thought it was the most annoying thing ever. My friend convinced me to watch the first movie one day and I was intrigued. I decided to dust off my book and give it another try and WOW! As soon as I finished the Sorcerer's Stone, I went out and bought books 2-4 (all that was out at the time) and I was hooked. I have never been so mesmerized. I became one of those people at the midnight releases who would get the book and then stay up all night reading it. I hadn't been that excited about reading since elementary school. Truly magical.

Blog Journal Challenge, Day 2 - your favorite movie

Day 2 - Your favorite movie

This question is a bit easier than yesterday's but it is still impossible to pick just one. Leaving out movies that I love that are a part of a trilogy or series (Star Wars, Harry Potter) since those movies are in a category of their own, I still have a 2-way tie for my favorite movie. 2 very different movies.

Donnie Darko is one of the first movies that comes to mind when someone asks me what my favorite movie is. I always take something new away from it and it never fails to make me cry. It's an intense movie but it's one that stirs up so many emotions that it's hard to pull away from it.

As much as I love Donnie Darko, it is one of those movies that's hard to just sit and watch over and over. One movie and can just sit down and watch is The Notebook.

Quite a departure from the darkness and intensity of Donnie Darko, The Notebook still manages to pull just as many emotions from me. It is just a pure and simple love story.

Those are my top 2 choices for sure. Some honorable mentions go to Rocky Horror, Saved, and The Dark Night. All movies that I could watch over and over and all movies that pull different emotions out.

Blog Journal Challenge, Day 1 - your favorite song

Day 1 - Your favorite song:

Starting this challenge with a tough one! I definitely can't narrow down just 1 favorite song. I have several that take me back to certain time or memory. If I had to give one answer though, I'd probably say Of Greetings and Goodbyes by AFI.

I am a huge AFI fan and this song is the perfect example of everything I love about this band. It may not be their best song of all time, but it makes me want to dance around and sing along. I think this song is absolutely perfect.

Of course, AFI have had a long career and have a song for every mood. A very close second on my Favorite Song List is Fainting Spells by AFI.

I think this is another song that showcases everything that drew me to this band in the first place. The screaming chorus that comes out of nowhere. The quirky, electronic bridge that seems out of place but totally right at the same time. Everything.

Moving away from AFI songs, most of the songs I love are a result of them transporting me back to particular time. Paparazzi by Lady Gaga does just that. I consider this the theme song of the Bermuda Triangle (the most powerful force in the world AKA my two best friends and me).

This song is all kinds of awesome but mostly it reminds me of my last semester in college. Our trip to New York (where there were endless Gaga references), driving around Raleigh, staying up late trying to finish our final college projects. We made the most of our last semester of college and Lady Gaga seemed to be the perfect soundtrack to that.

Finally, we have my favorite radio song. You would think if someone liked a song enough to put it in the favorites category, they would be sure to buy it or download it or whatever so they could listen to it over and over. But some songs are even better when you can't just cue it up on your iPod on demand. The anticipation of listening to the radio and hoping that song will come on. Since songs in this category are tied to what's popular on the radio, this is another case where the song is special for the memories it stirs up. In this case, my current favorite radio song is one that was popular a few months ago. Jars by Chevelle.

Hearing this takes me back to when I was still working in Tysons and spent what felt like forever in my car. I heard this song at least 2-3 times every day. I don't hear it as often any more but when I do, I feel compelled to blast it. It's also a reminder of how far I've come in just the last few months since finishing college and entering the working world. I'm sure in a few months I'll have a new favorite radio song that will take me back to all the moments and memories being created now and that will be added to the list.

There are so many other songs that could go on this list and if I were to re-compile this list another day, it may be completely different. I could go on for days about songs I love and what they mean to me and why but those are some of the basics that represent some of my favorite songs.
